Thylander and KanAm Grund Group signs construction contract with NCC for phase one of Laksegade Kvarteret
Copenhagen, 11 March 2026
Thylander and KanAm Grund Group, who are developing Laksegade Kvarteret in partnership with an international investor, have signed a construction agreement with NCC to deliver the first phase of the transformation of Laksegade Kvarteret.
The agreement marks the first tangible step within the redevelopment of the historic district in the heart of Copenhagen, between Holmens Kanal and Bremerholm.
Together with NCC, EKJ, Praksis Arkitekter, and in close dialogue with the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces and the City of Copenhagen, the project now moves into a careful transformation of the properties. This stage of the project includes five office units and two new retail spaces and signals the beginning of the physical change at Laksegade Kvarteret. Hidden and overlooked areas will be brought back into life, and historic structures will be restored with respect and precision. The design is structured with a clear ambition to unite historic architecture with modern, functional and attractive office environments.
Rasmus Tøgern, Project Director for Laksegade Kvarteret at Thylander, says:
“We are very pleased to have this agreement in place and to soon see the work begin. With NCC, we have a strong and experienced partner who understands the complexity of transforming historic buildings within this scale. The visible changes will soon be underway, and this is where our vision truly starts to take shape”.
NCC’s specialist teams and subcontractors will take on their expertise to help bring the buildings into a new era, creating contemporary premises for business, retail and city life.
Erik Vibe Pedersen, Director of Renovation & Transformation at NCC, adds:
“We look forward to contributing to the development of Laksegade Kvarteret. Transforming historic properties in an urban setting like this demands high level planning and execution. We are pleased, together with Thylander and KanAm Grund Group and the advisory team, to deliver on the project’s ambitions”.
The upcoming years, construction will fill the area, but the direction is already clear: Laksegade Kvarteret will once again become an active part of Copenhagen. Offices, retail and urban life will be brought together, with deep respect for its historic legacy.
“Laksegade Kvarteret is one of the most ambitious transformation projects in the Nordics today. Together with NCC, we are taking the first step in opening an area that has been closed off for generations and bringing it back to life. We are creating a new, vibrant neighborhood. One that will once again welcome Copenhageners and the city’s visitors inside,” says Bjarke Mikkelsen, CEO of Thylander.
In the meantime, pedestrians can explore the story of Laksegade Kvarteret along the construction fencing by Holmens Kanal, Bremerholm and Laksegade. Take a look at the area’s rich history, and its architectural and cultural heritage across different periods, presented as part of the transformation.
